Ocean Harvest Technology Group plc (OHT) has announced the positive results of a recent study on the effect of its OceanFeed Poultry (OFP) product on broilers challenged with necrotic enteritis (NE). The trial, conducted at the Southern Poultry Research Group in Georgia, showed that including OFP in the diet of broilers reduced mortality from 49% to 33%. The OFP group also demonstrated enhanced weight gain and improved intestinal lesion scores. The data supports existing research on the ability of OFP to bind the pathogen Clostridium perfringens, which causes NE. This data will be useful in discussions with customers currently using or considering OFP. The global poultry sector faces an annual cost of up to $6 billion from NE, making the use of natural and sustainable feed ingredients increasingly important as consumer and regulatory pressure to reduce antibiotic usage in animal production grows. Mark Williams, CEO of OHT, commented that the trial results highlight the commercial advantages of using OFP in poultry diets and demonstrate the multiple benefits of including OceanFeed in animal diets.
