Kroger Co. has announced the opening of a new spoke facility in Johnstown, Colorado, which will serve the Larimer County and Northern Colorado area. The facility will offer Kroger's selection of fresh items, including their own brand products and national brands, as well as cost-saving offerings. The spoke facility, which spans approximately 57,000 square feet, will work in conjunction with the Aurora fulfillment center. Orders will be picked at the peak freshness within the Aurora facility, assembled by associates, and placed in climate-controlled vehicles for delivery to Johnstown. The facility currently employs nearly 70 associates.
Local officials have expressed their excitement about Kroger establishing a fulfillment center in Johnstown, as it will create jobs and allow residents to spend more time with family and friends. The Larimer County Board of County Commissioners also commended Kroger for its commitment to technology, sustainability, and convenience.
Customers in Northern Colorado can access digital coupons and gain more value through the Boost by King Soopers annual grocery delivery membership program. The program offers a free 30-day trial and a subscription for as little as $7.99 per month.
The expansion to Northern Colorado is part of Kroger's collaboration with Ocado Group, which aims to establish a delivery network using artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, and automation. The system uses AI to determine the packing process, ensuring accuracy and reducing waste. Products are then delivered in customized refrigerated vans to maintain the right temperature. Kroger currently operates customer fulfillment centers in various locations, with plans for additional facilities in the future.
