ITV has accepted Ofcom's offer to renew all of its PSB licences for a full ten-year term until the end of 2034. The Channel 3 licences cover all of ITV1's output, including ITV's 13 nations and regions news franchises and the Channel 3 breakfast licence. ITV's CEO, Carolyn McCall, expressed that this renewal provides certainty for long-term investment in broadcast and streaming businesses and high-quality UK-produced content at the heart of national life as a PSB.
McCall highlighted the importance of ITV's content, from award-winning national and regional news to daytime, entertainment, sports, reality shows, and dramas like "Mr Bates versus The Post Office," emphasizing the enduring power and value of ITV and the PSBs. She also emphasized the need for the passing of the Media Bill by Parliament and its robust implementation by Ofcom to ensure the survival and thriving of the PSB system in a world of intense competition for viewing and advertising.
The renewed licences include the C3 breakfast licence (broadcast as Good Morning Britain) and the regional licences for UTV, Border, Tyne Tees, Yorkshire, Granada, Wales, Meridian, Channel, London, London Weekend, Meridian, Anglia Central, and West Country. ITV looks forward to working closely with Ofcom to ensure the flourishing of the PSB system and ITV's Channel 3 services as critical components within that system.
