EQTEC PLC has signed a technical services agreement with Simonpietri Enterprises LLC (SEL) for engineering services and equipment supply for a waste wood-to-electricity plant in Hawaii. The plant will convert approximately 15,000 tonnes per year of wood waste into synthesis gas (syngas), which will fuel a gas-fired boiler to generate steam for use in a steam turbine to produce up to 2 MW of electrical power. The power will be used to operate an organic fertilizer production facility and a demolition waste sorting and recycling operation. SEL is a waste-to-energy development company based in Hawaii that provides innovative solutions in waste management, renewable fuels, energy production, transportation, and agriculture. The engineering contract is for the gasification system for SEL's Sustainable Materials Recycling and Fertilizer Facility (SMRFF) in Kapolei, Hawaii. EQTEC's gasification technology is seen as a clean energy alternative to landfilling, burning, or incineration for waste management and recycled-material production. The basic engineering work is expected to commence at the end of 2023 and be completed in early 2024. EQTEC will invoice $180,000 for this work and a further €300,000 for front-end engineering design (FEED). The company has also provided a quotation for detailed engineering, equipment, construction advisory, and commissioning services for approximately €7 million, subject to funding being secured by SEL. EQTEC's syngas technology, modular build, and limited footprint are attractive to developers in island environments. The company has been approached by various local authorities and developers from island communities in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and elsewhere. EQTEC hopes that this agreement will open up new opportunities for the company.
