EQTEC PLC has announced its decision to discontinue its Billingham project in the UK due to challenging market conditions and recent setbacks. The project aimed to create a refuse-derived fuel-to-combined heat and power facility that would generate electricity for export to the national grid. However, the company faced difficulties in finalizing private wire offtake terms and the termination of its grid connection contract by Northern Powergrid Holdings Company. As a result, a significant portion of EQTEC's previous investment in the project is expected to be impaired. The company is now focusing on engaging with projects developed by others to de-risk its earnings profile.
