Emmerson PLC, a mining company focused on the development of the Khemisset project in Morocco, has expressed its condolences and support to the Moroccan authorities following an earthquake that occurred over the weekend. The company's project and support offices are located at a safe distance from the earthquake zone, and all Emmerson employees are reported to be safe and unaffected by the event.

The Khemisset project aims to become a low-cost, high-margin supplier of potash and the first primary producer on the African continent. With an estimated mine life of 19 years, the development of Khemisset is expected to bring long-term investment, employment opportunities, taxation, and other benefits to Morocco. The project has a large JORC Resource Estimate of 537 million tonnes of potash, with significant exploration potential.

Morocco is recognized as one of the leading phosphate producers globally and is set to consolidate its position as the most important fertilizer producer in Africa with the development of the Khemisset mine. The project is strategically located to support the expected growth of African fertilizer consumption and has proximity to European markets. The increasing global demand for potash to feed the growing population presents opportunities for Khemisset to benefit from.

The Feasibility Study released in June 2020 indicated that the Khemisset project has the potential to be one of the lowest capital cost development stage potash projects in the world and one of the highest margin projects due to its location. The study showed compelling economics, including a post-tax NPV8 of approximately US$1.4 billion.

Overall, Emmerson PLC remains committed to advancing the Khemisset project and bringing significant international investment to Morocco over the life of the mine.
