Cornish Metals Inc. has provided an update on its South Crofty Tin Project in Cornwall, United Kingdom. The Feasibility Study for the project is progressing on schedule, with a substantial amount of the study already completed. The company has also reported favourable results from ore sorting tests, which exceeded expectations. X-Ray Transmission (XRT) ore sorting proved highly effective at preconcentrating mineralisation from different zones of the South Crofty deposit. This is expected to have a positive impact on project economics, reducing power consumption, process plant size, and capital and operating costs.
In addition to the ore sorting results, the company has completed other components of the Feasibility Study. This includes structural modelling and refurbishment of the headframe, schedule and costing for shaft refurbishment, geotechnical rock testing, and conceptual numerical modelling of underground mining methods. The metallurgical testwork programme, including mineralogy and gravity response tests, has also been completed. The results confirm the upgrading potential of South Crofty mineralisation and enable further process design optimization to reduce the size of the mineral processing plant and lower costs.
The Feasibility Study is currently underway for mineral processing plant design, underground mine design and optimization, mine ventilation study, paste backfill plant design, hydrogeology, environmental and social studies, and closure studies. AMC Mining Consultants has been appointed to independently review and compile the Feasibility Study.
South Crofty is a historical, high-grade underground tin mine with Planning Permission for underground mining and necessary infrastructure. It has the 4th highest grade tin Mineral Resource globally and could generate 250-300 direct jobs. Tin is considered a Critical Mineral, and responsible sourcing and security of supply are important factors in the energy transition and technology growth. The project has strong support from the local community and regional and national governments.
Overall, Cornish Metals is making progress with the Feasibility Study for the South Crofty Tin Project, with favourable ore sorting results and completion of the metallurgical drill programme. The company is optimistic about the project's potential and expects positive effects on project economics.
