Balfour Beatty, in partnership with National Highways, successfully completed a complex bridge demolition operation on the M25 motorway ahead of schedule. The closure, the first since the M25 opened in 1986, allowed for the demolition of the existing Clearmount bridleway bridge and the installation of a large gantry. This marks the first of five intentional motorway closures, with the project aiming to increase the number of lanes, improve traffic flow, and reduce pollution. The scheme also includes the installation of the UK's first heathland bridge, the Cockcrow Green Bridge, to provide a safe corridor for local wildlife.
The completion of the M25 Junction 10 improvement scheme is expected to enhance safety, traffic flow, and pollution reduction. Howard Williams, Balfour Beatty Project Director, praised the team's efforts, emphasizing the successful completion of the major milestone. Jonathan Wade, National Highways Project Lead, expressed delight at completing the work early and thanked everyone for their cooperation. The project is set to conclude in Summer 2025.
