Balfour Beatty’s revolutionary Automated Cone Laying Machines and newly opened East Leeds Orbital Route project have both featured in this month’s ‘Future of Roads’ edition of New Civil Engineer magazine

Having launched earlier this year, Balfour Beatty’s new Automated Cone Laying Machines (ACLMs) have set a new standard for road safety through its unique pioneering technology to eliminate the risks associated with manual cone laying activities.

In the latest edition of New Civil Engineer magazine, Balfour Beatty’s Managing Director of Highways, Phil Clifton and Connect Plus Services’ Traffic Manager and Technical Officer, Dale Hicks share their thoughts on the machines whilst emphasising the need for collaboration, not only for innovations such as the ACLMs, but for safety across the industry as a whole.

In addition, the recently completed East Leeds Orbital Route project which opened to the public on schedule in August, has also featured in the ‘Future of Roads’ issue with key players from Balfour Beatty’s project team as well as Leeds City Council’s Group Engineer, Adam Neve, all giving an insight into the innovative solutions devised to circumnavigate the complexities of the project.

After 137 weeks of construction, Leeds City Council’s biggest infrastructure project for half a decade is set to reduce congestion in North-East Leeds through the construction of a 6.8km dual carriageway as well as cycle, equestrian and pedestrian routes, and will unlock significant development opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region for generations to come.
