Balfour Beatty has been awarded a £67 million contract by the City of Edinburgh Council to deliver a replacement campus at Liberton High School in Edinburgh, Scotland. The company will create new areas for biodiversity and work with ecologists to protect existing habitats in the adjacent conservation area as part of its sustainability strategy. The campus will be Balfour Beatty's first Passivhaus certified building and one of the first certified schools to be built in Scotland. The building will be energy efficient, utilizing high-performance windows and doors, and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery to reduce carbon emissions and improve indoor air quality. Construction is set to begin later this year, with completion expected in 2026. The project will employ 120 people at its peak, including apprenticeship, graduate, and trainee positions.
