Balfour Beatty Living Places has been awarded a £54 million, two-year extension to its Herefordshire Public Realm contract by Herefordshire County Council. The partnership between Balfour Beatty and the council will now run until Autumn 2026. Balfour Beatty Living Places will be responsible for maintaining the county's 3,250 kilometers of roads, as well as providing services such as street lighting, street cleaning, and the maintenance of parks and open spaces. The company will continue to implement innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance its Operational Control Hub. This will allow operational teams to automate the monitoring of the road network and prioritize repairs and maintenance works based on real-time data. Since the installation of the Hub in 2021, 94% of reactive jobs were completed on time, 100% of emergency responses were completed to schedule, and 61% of all reactive works were delivered ahead of schedule. Balfour Beatty Living Places has also introduced a digital route optimization tool to drive efficiencies in emptying bins across the county, resulting in a productivity saving of 15 hours per week and a reduction in carbon emissions. The company is committed to leaving a positive legacy in the communities it operates in and will continue to support local charities and community projects throughout the duration of the contract. Balfour Beatty Living Places will employ 150 people, including 15 apprenticeship and graduate positions, throughout the contract.
