Balfour Beatty has been selected as one of ten preferred bidders on SSEN Transmission's Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework. The framework is part of SSEN's "Pathway to 2030" network redevelopment program, which aims to upgrade the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland. Balfour Beatty will be responsible for delivering the overhead lines, underground cables, and substations needed for the redevelopment. The contract awards, including the scope and value of the works, are expected later in 2023. The program will help meet the UK and Scottish Government's renewable energy and climate change targets and contribute to securing future energy independence. Balfour Beatty has previous experience in delivering complex onshore electricity transmission projects and is currently working on the first and second phases of overhead line works in the West of Scotland. The company is also delivering a new substation and associated works in Peterhead.
