Anglo American Platinum has announced that its Mototolo and Amandelbult mines in South Africa have achieved the IRMA 75 and IRMA 50 levels of performance, respectively, on the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance's (IRMA) comprehensive mining standard. The Unki mine in Zimbabwe has retained its IRMA 75 status. This reflects the company's commitment to sustainability and transparency in platinum group metals (PGMs) production.

The CEO of Anglo American Platinum, Craig Miller, emphasized the company's dedication to being a leader in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, stating, "We are immensely proud of the work the teams have been doing across these operations to support responsible mining and we look forward to continuing to lead the way in the mining sector globally."

Anglo American Platinum's participation in IRMA aims to promote transparency and best practices in sustainability, adding value to its customers by meeting increasing expectations for responsibly sourced mined materials. The company is working towards assuring all its operations against this recognized responsible mining standard by 2025, as outlined in its Sustainable Mining Plan.

The IRMA scoring system recognizes four levels of performance: IRMA Transparency, IRMA 50, IRMA 75, and IRMA 100, signifying that a mine meets a core set of critical requirements together with at least 50%, 75%, or 100% of the requirements in each of the four sections of the Standard for Responsible Mining being met, respectively.

The IRMA Standard for Responsible Mining has been developed over a decade through a public consultation process and is considered one of the most rigorous certification processes. Aimee Boulanger, Executive Director of IRMA, highlighted that through detailed IRMA audit reports, mining companies, communities, and companies that purchase mined materials can gain the information they need to make informed decisions about specific mines.

Anglo American is a leading global mining company, and its portfolio of world-class competitive operations provides essential metals and minerals for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world. With a commitment to innovation and the latest technologies, the company aims to discover new resources and mine, process, move, and market its products to customers safely.
