Acer Inc. has published its 2022 Sustainability Report, which provides transparency on the company's strategies, actions, and achievements in sustainability management. One of Acer's initiatives to reduce carbon emissions in shipping its products worldwide is a partnership with logistics provider Kuehne+Nagel to use biofuel in standard sea containers since Q422. This move is aimed at reducing the company's sea logistics emissions. International maritime transport accounts for approximately 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainable marine fuels like biofuel have a lower carbon footprint compared to petroleum-based fuels.

Acer's goals align with the International Maritime Organization's GHG reduction strategy, which aims for the uptake of zero or near-zero GHG emission technologies, fuels, and/or energy sources to represent 5-10% of the energy used by international shipping by 2030. Acer is taking steps to help decarbonize the marine industry and contribute to this goal.

The highlights of Acer's progress in sustainability include its commitment to reaching net zero emissions by 2050 in its operations, products and services, and value chain. The company is also working towards using 20-30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in its computers and displays by 2025 and sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2035. Acer has already reached 17% and 44% respectively in 2022. The company has expanded its eco-conscious Vero portfolio, which includes laptops, desktops, monitors, displays, all-in-ones, Chromebooks, and accessories that utilize recycled plastic, recyclable packaging, and ocean-bound plastic.

Acer's sustainability platform, Acer Earthion, has gained strength and engaged over 7,000 employees, partners, and suppliers in a 21-Day Green Challenge. This campaign aimed to raise awareness for environmental protection, help employees form green habits, and cut 152 tons of CO2 emissions.

Acer is also responding to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its existing businesses and new initiatives. For example, its AI-assisted medical solutions, rainfall and flood control water storage systems, and Vero devices contribute to SDGs related to good health and well-being, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and climate action.

Education is another key focus for Acer, as the company seeks to promote digital equity and break barriers between people and technology. Acer was recognized as one of the World Benchmarking Alliance's 2,000 most influential companies in the field of digital inclusion.

Acer is committed to long-term sustainability and will continue to evolve with industry and lifestyle changes. The company plans to promote low-carbon transformation through innovative eco-conscious solutions, increase the use of PCR plastic and ocean-bound plastic materials, expand its commitment in energy storage, and more. Acer aims to expand its multiple businesses for growth while ensuring the sustainability of its operations and the environment.
